Tips for Planning Your Wedding Flowers
If you haven’t ordered flowers for a big event before, the very thought of it can be daunting. First of all, be assured that we can take you through the process step by step and most brides are pleasantly surprised by how easy and fun the planning can be. If you haven’t yet chosen your wedding florist you might want to start by dropping in to see portfolios, at the shop or on line. It’s also a good chance to look around and see the flowers and arrangements we offer so you feel confident in our abilities before you book.
When you’re ready to really talk details it’s best to call ahead and get a consultation appointment so that we can have uninterrupted time with you. We recommend coming alone or with one trusted advisor, be it the Groom, Maid of Honor or Bride’s mother. Too many opinions will just make for confusion and a longer appointment.
Bring as much information about your wedding to the appointment as possible. Descriptions, pictures, and fabric swatches all take the guesswork out of the planning and enable us to make appropriate suggestions. Make a list of everyone in your wedding party and anyone else you will want flowers for including parents, Godparents, soloists, etc. It’s surprising how long it can take to think of everyone when you don’t have it written down. Don’t forget to have the names and addresses of the ceremony and reception venues and an approximate idea of how many centerpieces , and other floral arrangements you might need. Please be prepared to spend 1-2 hours on the first appointment.
As for your floral budget, everyone wants to know what the flowers will cost. Since each wedding is unique there’s really no way to answer that until we talk to you about the options. We do have a few suggestions on how to get the most for your money, however. First of all choosing flowers in season will go a long way towards keeping costs in line. Tulips in October are more expensive than tulips in April for instance. Also, rather than getting caught up in choosing every flower used in your bouquets, think more about the overall look and style of your wedding and rely on our expertise to make the floral arrangements complement the dresses and venue.
We know how important your big day is and we look forward to working with you to create the wedding of your dreams.
